This season at Rangers football club is nothing short of embarrassing. Nine points off the top in November, officially the worst team in the history of the Champions League and overall, the football and team isn’t fun to watch. It’s a chore going to games and that can't continue. The low point is the group stage of the Champions League.

The match vs Liverpool was an embarrassment from everyone at Rangers football club. Never mind who the opposition is, a 7-1 defeat at Ibrox is unacceptable for a club the stature of the Govan outfit.

There are a lot of fans, who are calling for the head of Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and even though they feel a new manager is needed, there are problems that run deeper than the manager. But let’s start with the manager.

I'm sure a lot of fans want to thank Van Bronkhorst. Last season was nothing short of exceptional. A lot of money spent traveling across the continent. Even though the final didn’t go the way of the light blues, nights like Leipzig at home and the feeling when Aribo scored in Seville will live with many Rangers fans for the rest of their lives, but this seasons champions league results and performances have been unacceptable.

The Champions League horror show has to come down to the manager. We will get to the recruitment side later, but the players in the squad should be performing to a much higher level. Yes, the opposition are a much better team than them, but that shouldn’t stop the players fighting for every ball, challenging for 50/50s, throwing yourself in front of every ball and doing whatever it takes to win. That doesn't seem to be the case, when it went 2-1 to Liverpool it looks like they just gave up. It’s not as if we don’t see upsets in Europe, we have seen Maccabi Haifa beat Juventus, Club Brugge went through their group a head of Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid.

If they are going to sack Van Bronkhorst, a lot believe it's now too late, nine points off the top, out of the champions league, so anything that happens after this World Cup break it will be just damage limitation to get to the end of the season, maybe with a domestic trophy.

Other than Gio, the other man who is getting it from all sides of the Rangers support is Director of Football, Ross Wilson. The recruitment over the past few years has been nothing short of a disgrace. The squad has needed refreshing for some time, and to put that into perspective three years ago Rangers faced Feyenoord at home and won 1-0. Sheyi Ojo scoring the winner. From that game comparing it to the Napoli home game, there are three changes from that team. That is unacceptable and a borderline joke.

Now if Gio is to go, the question most people go to ‘who would you get in?’ The current favourite amongst Rangers fans is Kjetil Knutsen, the current manager of Norwegian outfit Bodo Glimt. He’s been highly thought of across the continent for many years, was linked with jobs such as Brighton most recently, as well as Ajax after the departure of Ten hag. He has a distinct style of play and took Den Gule Horde into the Europa league and got some notable results in last season conference league, including a 6-1 victory over Jose Mourinho’s Roma side, as well as a 5-1 aggregate victory over Rangers' Old Firm rivals, Celtic.

Other names that have been touted for the Ibrox hostseat are Sean Dyche, Marcelo Bielsa, and former boss Steven Gerrard. A lot of fans haven't forgiven the Liverpool Legend for how he left last year, so it would certainly be a controversial appointment with the Govan faithful.

Overall, there are so many problems at our football club but if we want to sort that out, winning the league would be a great start and I don’t believe the current manager is good enough to get that done.
